 Term 1 2025 classes

Term 1 will run from Saturday 1st February until Sat 5th April, a 9-week term.

Our focus this term will be choreography revision, technique breakdown and general fun as we prepare for a performance at the St Kilda festival in the Dancezone at St Kilda on Sunday 16th February! (for more information check the St Kilda Festival website)

We are also preparing for a Cultural festival with the Whitehorse council to demonstrate and talk about some of the many folkloric forms in the Middle East. This will be in Forest Hill on Sunday March 30th. (For more details check the Whitehorse Council website)

This term will have the usual range of Oriental Egyptian bellydance classes from Beginners to Advanced, as well as American Tribal Fusion style and Folklore classes. For term 1 we are again combining the Saturday ‘in-studio’ Tribal and Folkloric classes into a 1-hour session-with 30 mins of each style. The Wednesday 6.30pm class may not run this term as students travel and rest. Please check before attending.

Regular Zoom classes are running as usual. Monday evening is a 1-hour class at 7pm – Oriental Bellydance, and a Tuesday morning 1.5 hr class at 10am in Tribal/Folklore.

The end of this term will finish on Saturday 5th April and will resume on Monday 28th April

See the Term 1 2025 timetable below for full details.

Class Descriptions

What Style Do We Teach?
In the beginning all classes learn a general form of Egyptian dance, with a focus on technique and applying them in a choreography. At the higher levels we begin the Egyptian style which has a strong abdominal focus, with more intricate moves and combinations. Choreography plays a greater role in the class structure. All classes will learn to use a variety of props – veils, canes, and zills (finger cymbals). Other props such as Isis wings, fan veils and sword may be taught if the class wishes.
Specialist classes in American Tribal style and many of the Folklore styles from the Middle East are also offered.

What should I wear to class?
Leotard or fitting top with leggings / gym pants.
Footwear is optional – bare-feet, jiffies or flat dance shoes are preferred.
Whatever you wear, ensure you feel comfortable. If you have a scarf or something to tie around your hips, bring it along (optional). Bring water.
